St Patricks Day Punch
with a Real Kick

...Or Not, Your Choice

green punch in clear punch bowl

I love a good St Patricks Day punch. As St. Patrick's Day treats go, it's right up there with sweets for me.

The beauty of a St. Patrick's Day punch is that it makes an instant decoration, what with it being big and green and all. So make sure you use it to its advantage and arrange your table goodies around your fabulous, clear glass punch bowl.

Punch Tip: Freeze some of the juice in the recipes below in ice cube trays. Use these juice cubes in your punch to not only chill the beverage, but to keep it fresh and not watery.

Green Rum Punch

Speaking of that St Patricks Day punch with a real kick, this one has it. As a companion to individual green St. Patrick's Day drinks, it's nice to have a bowl of punch to keep everyone happy in between mixing new drinks every ten minutes.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 large can frozen limeade
  • 1 large can frozen lemonade
  • 2 (2-liter) bottles of lemon-lime soda
  • 1 bottle of rum for the real kick
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients, except the sherbet, together in a clear glass punch bowl.
  2. Right before your guests arrive, spoon in scoops of lime sherbet.
  3. For a non-alcoholic version, leave out the rum and add more sherbet.

Refreshing Mint Punch

A light, refreshing St Patricks Day beverage, this drink uses fruit juice and mint.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 3 quarts pineapple juice
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 liter club soda
  • 1 liter gin
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a clear glass punch bowl.
  2. Add 2 trays of ice cubes.
  3. When serving the punch, scoop 1 ice cube into each glass and add a sprig of mint leaves to the glass as well.

Tart Green Apple Punch

Green apple is a fabulous taste for your St Patricks Day punch. It's tart and sweet at the same time, sort of like the day itself. Give the drink some zing with Sourz Apple Liqueur or serve it in its non-alcoholic form.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 gallon apple juice
  • green food coloring
  • 4 liters lemon-lime soda
  • crushed ice
  • Sourz apple liqueur
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a clear glass punch bowl.
  2. For spiked punch, add a shot to each glass from a silver flask filled with Sourz apple liqueur. (I know, the flask isn't essential, but hey, I just like the idea of using a silver flask!)

Bubbly Green Apple Punch

This recipe for St Patricks Day is a little less tart, and a lot more bubbly.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 gallon apple juice
  • 1 quart pear nectar
  • green food coloring
  • 4 liters champagne
  • crushed ice
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a clear glass punch bowl.
  2. Replace the champagne with ginger ale for a non-alcoholic version.

Lime Green Punch

The taste of citrus is the order of the day for this St Patricks Day punch.

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 cups refrigerated citrus punch
  • 1 large can frozen limeade
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • green food coloring
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda
  • 5 limes, cut in slices
  • 1 quart lime sherbet, softened
  • crushed ice
  • key lime liquor (e.g. KeKe Beach)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a clear glass punch bowl, except the limes.
  2. Float the limes on top after mixing the other ingredients.
  3. To spike the punch, add a key lime liquor like KeKe Beach.
